Triumph for Bisciù (first among the rosés) and Mantajo at the Città del Vino International Wine Competition. The Mayor of Cerignola, Bonito, also collected the award

ROME, 8 July 2024. A prestigious milestone for the Cerignola-based company Tenute Manduano, awarded today in Rome, at the Sala Giulio Cesare in the Campidoglio (Palazzo Senatorio), at the Città del Vino International Wine Competition. The event is organised by the Associazione Nazionale Città del Vino with the authorisation of the Masaf (Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry) and the scientific support of the OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine). The spirit is that of reaffirming the value of the relationship between wine and territory by rewarding companies and municipal administrations together.

For this reason the Mayor of the relevant municipality, in this specific case the Hon. Francesco Bonito, Mayor of Cerignola, receives, together with the producer, the medal for the wines produced within his own territory in order to enhance the quality of local winemaking production. Tenute Manduano (the Manduano Family) won two golds in this edition, one for the Rosé from Nero di Troia Bisciù Puglia IGP and the other for the rosé of Mantajo Negroamaro Puglia IGP. All with remarkable scores: Bisciù in the Gold category achieved the highest score among all the rosés in the competition.

The Competition, owing to its itinerant nature, takes place in some of the most important Italian Città del Vino (Wine Cities). About 60 commissioners take part in the tasting sessions, including oenologists, buyers and journalists from Italy and abroad. Attending today’s award ceremony were the Hon. Francesco Lollobrigida, the Councillor for Agriculture of Roma Capitale Sabrina Alfonsi and the Regional Councillor for Agriculture of the Lazio Region. Collecting the prestigious awards were Vito and Michela Manduano, representing the Manduano Family, and Giuseppe Colopi, the company’s oenologist, accompanied by the Mayor of Cerignola.

«We are proud to see, first and foremost, our daily commitment rewarded, our dedication, our determination to put quality first at all costs – commented the manager of Tenute Manduano, Michela Manduano -. It was an immense pleasure to have taken part in the award ceremony in Rome, in such a striking location, and to introduce everyone to our beloved land». An award that is the fruit of the marriage with a territory devoted to winemaking of the utmost importance. «In our wine there is the best of our territory, there are the values from which this project set out, those of our family, there is a strong bond with our identity – said Vito Manduano, co-founder of Tenute Manduano -. This morning was an honour for us, to be able to receive this award, to have the Mayor of Cerignola Francesco Bonito at our side, and to see this success tied to the territory we belong to. The two gold medals have once again proven the quality of our product, which has already been awarded several times in numerous competitions, but what pleasantly surprised us is seeing Bisciù first by score among the rosés in the competition. It means we are doing a good job and for this I can only thank our oenologist, Giuseppe Colopi, and those who work alongside me every day to achieve these results».

«I am very satisfied, as mayor of my city, as mayor of Cerignola, about this day» said Francesco Bonito, Mayor of the City of Cerignola. «I took part in the awards that were decreed within the 22nd ‘Città del Vino’ international wine competition. Well, two winemaking productions of the Manduano company were awarded and of this I am extremely proud, they are young entrepreneurs who nonetheless come from a long entrepreneurial past, evidently that of their parents, and it is a company that is making a name for itself, winning over hearts as well as the markets of the sector. The event was very beautiful, we held it in a historic hall of great prestige, the council chamber of the Municipality of Rome, the Sala Giulio Cesare, in the presence of many mayors and many enthusiasts. It is worth saying that this award is not an award that is worth little, it is an award that is worth a great deal, because the selection of the winners was made among over a thousand Italian and foreign producers, so much so that it was also won by foreign companies. I extend my best wishes for good work to the Manduano company and look forward to seeing them next year, because this is certainly not a point of arrival, but a moment of passage. I want to underline that rosé productions were awarded, a rosé that evidently deserves excellence. And as mayor I want to underline the work of the Manduano family in this sector, which fits in with the entrepreneurial activity of other winemakers in our city as well: I want Cerignola to become the city of wine and I give the fullest assurance that the municipal administration will support these young entrepreneurs who wish to honour the name of Cerignola».
